My name is Nick Wilmot. I work as a business process engineer and internal product owner of the process management system Stages, within product development at General Motors. Most of my time at work is spent developing documentation for engineering business processes and ensuring quality is consistent across teams using our process management tool.
Prior to my current role, I was a business analyst at the dental insurance company Delta Dental Plan of Michigan, where I helped to translate business requirements to technical staff in systems development projects. I primarily supported a business rule system that helped to automate claims processing decisions.
The area of my profession that I’m most passionate about is finding ways to leverage business process modeling for requirements definition in the overall application development process. I think a lot of risks can be mitigated when processes are clearly mapped up front in the system development lifecycle, including the consistent usage of activity inputs and outputs.
As for my formal education, I have a B.S. in Media and Information with a specialization in Information Technology from Michigan State University, which I completed in 2014. I graduated with an MBA from Wayne State University in the summer of 2019 with concentrations in finance and information systems management.
Outside of work and school, I like to stay active by running, lifting weights, going backpacking/hiking, and most importantly hanging out with my dog, Frank, a retired racing greyhound.
